INTERNATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM PRESENTATION FOR NAMC
On Saturday, June 23, 2018, the Turner-Brownstone Team presented to prospective South Carolina National Association of Minority Contractor members in Charleston about one of the most important sites in American history that will soon home to the International African American Museum. The presentation was held at the Charleston Maritime Center, which is immediately adjacent to the building site of the IAAM. Brownstone’s Project Manager, Bobby Teachey, led the presentation and was ably assisted by Brownstone’s Diversity Manager, Darlene Gauer and Turner Construction’s Director of Community and Citizenship, Kym Gardner.
The presentation was a part of the National Association of Minority Contractor’s attempts to expand statewide membership outside of Columbia. As a charter member of the organization, Brownstone was honored and more than willing to participate in this effort to support South Carolina NAMC. We were very grateful to be joined by Mr. Al Jenkins of Senator Time Scott’s office for the presentation. Mr. Jenkins spoke highly of the efforts Mr. Teachey and Brownstone have put forth with regard to the IAAM project.
The International African American Museum is expected to be open in 2020 and will “present the largely under told experiences and contributions of Americans of African descent.” Brownstone could not be more proud to be part of such a history rich project.
